EARL GATESHEAD
Born in Tyneside! Earl came to London from Newcastle in 1977 and soon began to DJ at the Old Queen’s Head in Brixton. He built a a sound system and installed it at The Dive Bar in Soho’s Chinatown, London. The night became legendary as Earl began a 20 year residency in the dark underground venue. As Earl’s reputation grew residencies followed at the famous Blue Note club in Hoxton, and at Plastic People, where he worked with Big Youth , Dennis Alcapone, Adrian Sherwood and Bobby Digital amongst others. Spells followed in which Earl toured as Big Youth’s and Doctor Alimantado’s DJ. He DJ’d the first three exhibitions of graffiti artist Banksy. Earl formed Roots and Reality Sound with Daddy Ad and, as links with the world’s greatest reggae label, Trojan records, had become strong, the Sound gradually metamorphised into Trojan Sound System, for whom he remains selector. Earl’s London residency is the Rootikal night at East Village where he performs alongside David Rodigan and many others!

Real Roots presents one of this years hottest British reggae bands, fresh from performing at festivals around Europe, including main stage at the One Love Festival 2011.

SIMON MANDALA and the MANDALA MYSTICS (full band)
Simon Mandala and the Mandala-Mystics play modern conscious reggae from digital roots to Dancehall whist still maintaining an Old School Reggae Vibe.
With live percussion. bass and vocals over digital beats, The Mandala-Mystics spice up the Reggae with Subtle flavours of Hip-Hop, Soul and Jungle creating a Urban, Yet still Organic Sound Fusion.
Comprising of 4 ex-members of World Fusion Reggae band HoraceX. Simon Mandala and the Mandala-Mystics have played together at festivals all of the world including GLastonbury, Avalon, Montreal Jazz Festival, Chiemsee Reggae Festival. Mega Dog, Flesh D’or and Strawberry Fair.
As well as international touring they have also recorded BBC live sessions with Andy Kershaw, broadcast on BBC Radio one and BBC World Service.
